CHDS-Nepal participated in the 2nd International Conference on Bioscience and Biotechnology, jointly organized by Research Insitute for Bioscience and Biotechnology (RIBB) and Institute of Molecular Medicine (FIMM) at Kathmandu University, Dhulikhel, Kathmandu from February 17th-20th, 2018. The theme of the conference was “Avenues of Translational Biomedicine Research in Nepal”.  180 researchers from Nepal, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, South Korea and India participated in the conference. Research works were presented as oral talks and poster presentations. The conference had significant participation of students from Nepalese universities and colleges as well. They presented their work as poster presentations that were viewed by the delegates of the conference. This kind of events provide opportunity for students to present their work to scientists from different scientific background This definitely boosts their motivation for research. Besides oral and poster presentations, different research laboratories based in Nepal displayed their work and facilities. The laboratory stalls were also attended by the participants, that provided a platform for communication and networking for collaborative work in the future.

Dr. Deena Shrestha, the chairman of CHDS-Nepal, Rojita Tuladhar and Satya Raj Poudel participated the ICBB-2018, representing CHDS-Nepal. Posters, banners, flyers and brochures containing information on CHDS-Nepal’s team members, current research and trainings etc. were displayed. This provision at ICBB-2018 allowed the CHDS-Nepal to communicate with potential collaborators to work jointly in the future. Moreover, many life sciences students visited the stall of CHDS-Nepal and enquired about the intern and thesis researcher position. As a result of this, few students will be joining the CHDS-Nepal as interns.

Overall, the event was very successful and was mutually beneficial to researchers and students. All thanks to RIBB and FIMM for organizing such a wonderful event and giving CHDS-Nepal an opportunity to be its supporting partner.
